Special Issue Introduction
Our understanding of the genetic determinants of cardiovascular diseases had grown dramatically from the early days when the description of family history was the basis for suggesting a role for genetics to the modern world of identifying genetic polymorphisms, epigenetic factors and interrelationship with other components that lead to the manifestation of cardiovascular diseases. This issue aims to distill current knowledge in the field in the identification of genetic factors across the spectrum of cardiovascular disease, inclusive of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, aortic aneurysms, cardiac arrhythmias, and cardiomyopathies. It will also examine pharmacogenomics and newer treatments of the genetic factors leading to cardiovascular disease. The issue should update our knowledge in the field and point areas for further research.
